dc.description.abstract | From a leading-order calculation of K1(0) --> gamma*-gamma* --> l+ l- in chiral perturbation theory, the longitudinal muon polarization in the decay K(L) --> mu+-mu- is found to be approximately 2 X 10(-3) in the standard model. The relative branching ratios GAMMA(K(S) --> l+ l-)/GAMMA(K(S) --> 2-gamma) are predicted as 2 x 10(-6) (l = mu) and 8 X 10(-9) (l = e), respectively. | |
