EN SU OBRA SE ENTRECRUZAN DOS FACETAS, LA DE PAISAJISTA ESPECIALIZADO EN MARINAS Y LA DE HISTORIADOR NAVAL, ACTIVIDAD ESTA ULTIMA QUE DESARROLLO SOBRE TODO DESDE 1870 EN QUE FUE NOMBRADO PINTOR RESTAURADOR DEL MUSEO NAVAL. EN SUS CUADROS SE CONJUGA UNA OBSESION POR LA FIDELIDAD AL MODELO, PROPIO DE UN INVESTIGADOR, CON UNA CIERTA DOSIS DE ROMANTICISMO EN SU TRATAMIENTO PICTORICO DEL MAR. (A.B.C./ L.A.G.)	es
