dc.description.abstract | Can the way Nature acts be a model to imitate? Isn¿t it a praise to say that something is natural? The problem is that if we understand Nature as the whole or totality of everything that happens, it is pure nonsense to recommend following the precepts of Nature, as it is something we cannot avoid doing. On the contrary, if we understand as natural everything that happens without the voluntary participation of men, we are not making the advice to follow Nature more convincing, because most human actions have as their end to correct the suffering and diseases that the ways of Nature create. But if it is true that Mill presents these ideas in his essay Nature, we cannot forget that in other works he insists on the formative value for one¿s character of the contemplation of natural beauties; and this last thesis has important political consequences we are going to bring out. | en_US |
