dc.description.abstract | La tesis trata de la vida y la obra individual de Joan Cardells, tanto de sus primeras obras, cuando inicia su aprendizaje artístico, como de las posteriores a su aventura en el Equipo Realidad. Naturalmente esta época también es tratada en la tesis, pero el centro del trabajo es la obra individual de Cardells, una obra por desgracia no tan conocida como la de su trabajo en el Equipo. Cardells, cuando deja el Equipo Realidad, en el año 1976, se plantea un cambio radical en su trabajo. De manera que deja la pintura y se dedica a la escultura y, sobre todo, al dibujo. El cambio que esto supone, cuando ya tenía un cierto reconocimiento como pintor, le hace enfrentarse de nuevo al mercado del arte y a su reconocimiento como escultor y dibujante. El dedicarse sobre todo al dibujo, una técnica que no tiene la misma valoración que la pintura o la escultura, quizás le haya quitado el protagonismo que debiera en el mundo del arte; de hecho es más conocido por sus esculturas que sus dibujos. Su dedicación exclusiva a lo que verdaderamente le gusta, que es sobre todo dibujar, y el no preocuparse de otras tareas como la promoción de su nueva obra, ha contribuido a un conocimiento insuficientemente de lo que se merece su labor artística. En esta etapa individual va cambiando de estilo muy a menudo, sorprendiéndonos constantemente; y desarrollando un rico lenguaje artístico donde trata sus dibujos como esculturas y sus esculturas como dibujos. Un nexo de unión que se vislumbra en todas sus series, es la constante referencia a las enseñanzas artísticas; por eso su trabajo tiene un componente de gozo, de disfrute en la realización de sus obras. Por todo esto, era importante que hubiera un trabajo sobre la obra individual de Cardells, a la que lleva dedicándose ya años, muchos más de los que dedicó a su trabajo en equipo. Una obra en la que tampoco están ausentes ciertas referencias al clasicismo, al tratar sus esculturas como las copias de yeso de las estatuas clásicas que se emplean en la iniciación del dibujo; además, con la aparición en algunas de sus obras de una prenda de vestir clásica como es el chitón griego. El mismo Cardells dice que uno es tan hijo de los renacentistas como de los surrealistas y, efectivamente, sus obras se encuentran entre el clasicismo y la vanguardia.
