dc.description.abstract	Our aim in this paper is to discuss what science and technological education can bring to citizens' culture. We intend to respond to the criticism of authors who have referred to scientific literacy for all citizens as an unattainable myth, by showing that scientific literacy is both possible and necessary to . foster citizens' participation in decision making about problems related to scientific and technological development . contribute to critical thinking . transmit the excitement of the stimulating challenges faced by the scientific community, both historically and in the contemporary world
