dc.description.abstract | This study is related to our research on the Hellenistic Greek, so that our basic methodology has to do rather with a diachronical approach. In so doing, however, our contribution to the study of discourse markers follows the main lines of contemporary syntax. The analyzed works are Acts of the Apostles, The Shepherd of Hermas, Acts of Paul and Thecla, The life and miracles of Thecla, Acts of Xantippa, Polyxena and Rebecca, and the letters of the apostles Peter and James. These texts are dated between the Ith and VIth centuries A.D., and every particular chronology will be later on dealt with. We will take as a reference Galen, an author of the 1st cent. A.D., and the pseudo-Lucianic Timarion, a Byzantine short novel from the 12th cent. A.D. We will not consider the matter whether Christian Greek must be taken as an autonomous dialect, and therefore plainly recognizable from other varieties of Hellenistic Greek. | |
