dc.description.abstract Carmelo Giummo, born in Catania in 1953, lives in Augusta where he teaches English Literature at the local Classical High School. His first collection of poems, Graffi (Scratches), dates back to 1990. Dieci donne (Ten Women, 1996) and Nove haiku senza primavera (Nine Haikus without Spring, 2007) follow. Doppia traccia (Double track, 2009) and Alle mie scarpe (To My shoes, 2012) more and more manifestly define the leitmotiv of travel as the pivotal experience of his poetic writing. Giummo has published lyrics on anthologies and magazines and has participated in national and international literary and artistic events. His latest poetry book titled Mentre l?Europa dorme (While Europe Sleeps) was published in 2013. Parallel to writing, Giummo has always had a close collaboration with artists and musicians. In 1989, the British composer Robert Keeley set to music his unpublished poem cycle named Römische Lieder. With Arteinessere, an artistic association of Castel S. Pietro (Bologna), Giummo has been involved as a writer in various exhibitions and the realization of art books. In March 2017, he attended the International Convention  dedicated to  the Imaginative Writing in Bonaviri, held in Debrecen, Hungary, with a speech on the recurring themes and stylistic features which characterize Bonaviri's poetic production, which is still little studied. es
