Iatrogenic vascular injury during hip fracture surgery is a rare complication, with infrequent reports of injury during the procedure of cephalo-medullary nailing. We describe a case report of a 94 years old female with a pertrochanteric fracture complicated by an injury to the superior and inferior gluteal artery which occurred during insertion of the nail. There is a risk of lesion of the arteries gluteal during the location in the greater trochanter starting point for the nail insertion. For this reason, its important during this step of the operation look out a possible lesion and postoperative control for a correct diagnostic and early treatment |
