The city of Seville professed a great worship of Saint James the Moor-slayer between the 16thand 18thcenturies. This study analyses the reasons why such a cult took root in Seville, converting the city into an authentic Jacobean capital. Likewise, it delves into an analysis of the artistic works that emerged there as a consequence of the worship of Saint James, with special attention devoted to the different motivations of it promoters for undertaking those works of art. KEYWORDS: Saint James the Moor-slayer; Seville; Patronage of Spain; Chapter of Seville; Gonzalo Argote de Molina. |
