dc.description.abstract	Vague language is characterized by its polarity, which ranges from a ?positive? function connected with politeness, spontaneity and expressive fluency (especially in conversation) to a ?perverse? one, aimed at masking specific data or circumstances that should be mitigated or hidden. This paper deals with these two functions, albeit with special focus on the latter, a negative procedure out of the many manipulation strategies that can be deployed using linguistic devices. The result of this function will be exemplified in the light of evidence from the field of political discourse.	es
