The poet Teodor Llorente was unanimously recognized while alive as one of the most remarkable Spanish translators of the main European romantic poets of the nineteenth century. In this regard, it is noteworthy that his translation work was praised by authors such as Joan Alcover and Joan Maragall. However, the fact that most of these versions were written in lyrical Castilian Spanish led some Valencian critics of the second half of the twentieth century, such as Ricard Blasco, to qualify them as «missed opportunities». And, perhaps, this was the reason why most researchers forgot that Llorente also translated into Catalan six lyrical compositions that this study highlights and analyzes, from the point of view of their genesis and of the location where they were published as well as of the language model that the translator employed. | |
