This study aims to carry out an initial approach to the secondary educa- tion's effects on the assimilation of basic concepts in scientific literacy. One hundred and ninety-five spanish secondary education students at different educational levels (all from the same high school) have participated in this study. All of them have been administered the Brossard and Shanahan's (2006) test. The analysis of the results ob- tained (by means of ANOVA and chi square tests) allow us to conclude with respect to the assimilation of basics concepts in scientific literacy level that: a) At the end of compulsory secondary education (16 years old) is unsatisfactory, b) Improves as the educational level progresses, and significantly improves at the end of post-compulsory secondary education (18 years old), and c) There are concepts that can not be as- similated throughout secondary education. |
